how to meal prep
Meal Prepping What is it + How do I do it??
I like to keep things simple + effective both in and out of the gym. How I do my meal prep is no different.
First things first, grocery list.
How many people are you feeding?
How many days a week?
And for how many meals?
This is how we determine how much to buy. I’m a huge advocate of using everything in the fridge and leaving nothing to waste. Friday’s are notoriously fridge cleaning out day in my house and to be honest we’ve created some pretty awesome meals from it.
Okay so now that we know how much we need to buy, what are we making?
I like to loosely form my list around the meals we will be having. Now we certainly don’t plan every meal but for the most part we have a pretty good idea what we are having. Right down everything you’ll need, you can even go the extra mile and organize it by pantry items, veggies, protein and dairy. That way when you’re in the aisle you don’t forget anything. If you don’t already know I’m a huge AlDi supporter. They are actually the sister store of Trader Joe’s. They have quality food at affordable prices which means my family can be well fed without breaking the bank.
Next up, prep the damn food.
I already know what I’m making. Typically it’s 2 starchy carbs like sweet potatoes and rice, 2-3 veggies, 2-3 protein options and 5-7 overnight oat meals.
How you go about this is definitely a personal preference BUT I find the most efficient way to be
oven on and preheating for roasted veggies and meat
Put rice on the stove
Chop all veggies +season
Toss veggies + protein in oven
Lower rice once boiling cover, start any other protein on stove
Load up air fryer with veggies
Measure out 5-7 overnight oats (lately it is still my basic bitch overnight oats with 3 extra servings of egg whites)
Check veggies in stove, tend to stove top items
Take out air fryer veggies, and container everything up and pop it in the fridge
This usually takes me 45-60 mins. Once you know what you’re making it's really not that bad, the hardest part is time managing all the different things cooking and making sure you don’t burn anything.
Don’t have the “time” to meal prep?
How many mins/ hours did you spend watching tv, scrolling social media, hitting the snooze button???
That right there is time to meal prep.
Sometimes circumstances are less than ideal and we have to prep mid week, or get up an hour earlier but if your health and wellness are important to you, you will find the time.
Plus less stress about what to eat all week long. If you have any weight gain or loss goals you have to be mindful of what you’re consuming. That doesn’t mean you have to measure your food for life but you do have to have some whole food readily available. Whether you buy it from someone who makes it, buy it premade from the store or cook it yourself it has to happen.
I'm here to help make it as easy as possible, realistic and doable.
Together we will find the right solution for you to see the results you want and actually stick to it.
